My art studio (view from our backyard) after the renovations- Summer 2015

Last night Seth (my husband) and I were discussing some future house projects as there seems to be so many all the time when you're a homeowner. We get excited about these sorts of things.

Then today as I pushed the stroller through our backyard after a walk with Josie and Sarge, it was so nice to just take a minute and appreciate how far we've really come with this little studio! I used to paint in the corner of Josie's room, which wasn't bad, but this space is so much bigger and better.

My current art studio started out as a dark, greasy, spider-infested one-car garage attached by a breezeway to our kitchen. The yard behind the garage was basically a mud pit. It didn't make a great garage, but it makes a perfect studio! One of the first things Seth did was take out the old wooden window and replace it with three newish windows we snatched from his grandparents (thanks John and Barb!).

Soon after the patio was poured, I made a trip to a nursery with my mother-in-law to pick out flowers and bushes for the little garden. We (but mostly she as I was very pregnant at the time) planted and mulched and planted some more. Gardening is so much work!

I seriously love how it turned out. It's not quite "there" yet. We'd love to build a roof over the patio, edge in the garden with brick, add a bird bath, etc. But I think it's important to appreciate where you are every step in the process!
