I've always been intimidated when it comes to painting people. What's even more intimidating are children. Their skin tones, proportions, head, eyes, everything are different from adults, and my years of practicing drawing the human figure have been spent primarily drawing adults.
But this is the year I force myself to get more comfortable drawing and painting people, especially children.
So, I'm bottling up my fears and setting them on the shelf for a while. I've started a new daily painting challenge using Instagram as my source of inspiration (and reference photos), and I'm setting out to get faster and better at painting people.
So far I'm amazed at how just a little bit of practice can go a long way! I already feel my skills improving and my intimidation has turned into utter excitement and anticipation for each new little study in my sketchbook.
I also wanted to share today that I've opened up a new listing in my shop for a more simplified version of my standard Family Portrait. I'm calling this newer version a watercolor sketch as it's simpler, looser, and without the detailed backgrounds you're used to seeing. I still love the "old" version with all the color and detail, but I'm wanting to also offer a simpler, more affordable option for families with young kids.
For now, I'm offering just two sizes (5x7 and 8x10) starting at $100. Check out my listing here and purchase your own adorable family portrait today. (Plan ahead for Mother's Day! I'm now booking into April. (Thank you!))
